I have always loved the above quote till I read the cover of a book called "Don't Just Do Something, Sit There," expressing the sentiment that just being busy doesn't mean productive or effective. As Will states in the above quote, you also have to be on the right track.

Do you ever feel like you are rowing a boat in circles? Making the efforts and not getting much of a return on your time?
It's time to get on the right track!
If you are not as successful as you would like, take a look at the below 12 key reasons - if any of these characteristics describe you, hopefully you can recognize where you need improvement and make some positive changes.
1. You do not know exactly what you are selling. Most acupuncturists think they are selling acupuncture. Ask you current clients to describe exactly what you provide for them and sell that.
2. Your pointed personality is putting people off. We all come across in a particular way. Get the facts, it's crucial to know how people react to you.
3. You hold back some of what you see and sense. Your clients want the three "i's" from you - your Instincts, Intuition and Inklings.
4. You are rigid about what tools you use and how you use them. Customize your solutions. People want flexibility with integrity.
5. You need clients and it shows. Fear is consuming. Get a day job until you can transition.
6. You try and sell acupuncture as a professional service. Lets face it, as a customer it's boring. People won't buy boring, but they will buy better healthier lives.
7. You are clueless about marketing/publicizing and selling your gifts. Every acupuncturist has something very special to offer - get help in articulating your treasures.
8. You are not hearing what your clients really need, want or are saying. Acupuncturists lose clients because they aren't fully hearing exactly what is important to the client. Drop your agenda and listen for theirs.
9. You are missing using the web as a part of your marketing strategy. If you are not clear on how to utilize a website or create an effective one, find someone who can. The reality about this might really surprise you.
10. You invest more in your on-going clinical training and neglect to invest in your business skills and knowledge. Many forget that they were not schooled in how to open, run and sustain a successful practice and continue to neglect doing that.
11. You have not arranged for enough support or encouragement. Starting a practice takes time, structure and strategies. INVEST in support!
12. Maybe you are meant for another career or iteration of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. Your education may be a stepping stone for another career.
