From the Editor:

Happy Fourth of July everyone!  What a happy day.  Let's hope that your day is as good as it gets.  And I hope you all enjoy a fireworks display this weekend.  I tend to watch from very far away since the noise of the fireworks makes me feel like my heart is beating too fast.  It's much nicer to sit on the other side of Puget Sound and watch the display in Seattle.  But it is nice to have a day off once in a while.  I hope that if you are taking the day for yourself to do something fun the weather cooperates and you have a spectacular time.

Thanks to everyone that wrote to me this week.  And if there's anything you'd like to see in print here please feel free to let me know.  My email is editor@theacuprenuer.com.

Cheers,

"To know that you do not know is the best.
To pretend to know when you do not know is a disease."
~ Lao Tzu

Greetings Dear Ones,

Only a few spaces remain!

If you have not yet signed up for this year's GET YOUR YEAR IN GEAR you may miss out!

There is an old saying - when you fail to plan, you plan to fail - and this program is a great way to plan your 2009 so you have the best year yet.

Quite a while ago one of my coaches turned me on to a number of different strategies for managing my life and my work and from that came the "Get Your Year In Gear Program".

In today's tumultuous times, work/life balance is harder than ever. Each and every day we are faced with change at the speed of light, and these changes have an impact on all of us.

With preparation, planning and robust systems in place, you can have the work/life balance you have always wanted.

So don't just sit there.  Take the action that will provide payoffs both in the present and in the future!

Click here for the Get Your Year in Gear Program...I look forward to seeing you there!

Very best,
Dr. E

and values are in balance."

"Problems arise in that one has to find a balance between
what people need from you and what you need for yourself."
- Jessye Norman

"Be aware of wonder.
Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and
paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some."

Well you are not alone, there are thousands of practitioners out there who feel the same way you do and are struggling with the same challenges you are!

And that is why I wrote this book - to help you take the guesswork out of filling your practice and offer you a step-by-step method for filling it based on what is important to you with quality patients and clients.

  News of Interest!

Ontario Establishes New College Of Traditional Chinese Medicine - McGuinty Government Helps Ensure Alternative Health Care Is Safe - Ontario has appointed a 15-member transitional council to oversee the practises and services of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners and acupuncturists. The first public meeting of the council was held June 26, 2008.

Local doctor co-authors acupuncture study - As the study and public use of acupuncture continues to increase, a local doctor wanted to separate the effectiveness of "true" methods compared to false interventions. In order to distinguish fact from fiction, Dr. Matthew Davis, a practicing chiropractor at Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend and a fellow in the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture, led a review to determine if acupuncture can play a role in the treatment of patients with tension-type headaches.

Beyond Qigong: Stronger Remedies - Acupuncture has become more than just the last thing you try to kick an addiction; it's a common remedy for many conditions once treated exclusively by surgery or drugs. There are nearly 9,000 licensed acupuncturists in the U.S., up from 5,500 in 1992 - and some 200 insurance companies cover their services. No one knows exactly how acupuncture works, but studies suggest that like vigorous exercise - or morphine - it releases neuropeptides that fight pain.

Island herbalist preserves traditional Caribbean cures - For years Dinah Veeris ignored the traditional Caribbean medicine of her native Curacao, but while recovering from an operation she found only her mother's teas eased her stomach pains. Casual chats with her mother about the herbs in her garden turned into a five-year study of herbal medicine that took Veeris from the island of Curacao through the mountains of nearby Aruba and Bonaire isles, just north of Venezuela.

The Chinese approach to treating sinusitis - In the treatment of sinusitis, points are selected, which directly affect the body's immune and respiratory system. The treatment is intended to boost the body's natural defence, preventing susceptibility to the many environmental elements, which may trigger the flare up of sinus infections, all while supporting the respiratory system and drying mucous in the head.

Tiger Experts Welcome World Bank's Commitment to Tiger Conservation - Lixin Huang, President of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM) and Judy Mills, Board member of ACTCM and director of the International Tiger Coalition (ITC), joined members of the international conservation community and actors Harrison Ford and Bo Derek for an event at the National Zoo in Washington, DC on June 9th. The event, sponsored by the World Bank, was held to raise awareness about tiger conservation and to announce its plan to undertake a global joint venture to help reverse the decline wild tigers -- the first-ever species initiative by the World Bank.
