From The Editor
From the Editor:
Oh my goodness what a
week. For the first time in my life I ran out of gas and had to hoof it to
find not only a gas can but a gas station. Who don't gas stations sell or
at least rent gas cans for the incredibly desperate? I have killed so many
cars in my day, but never ran out of gas before. Man that was the
pits. And don't ever try to pump gas into an empty Pellegrino bottle --
even the big ones -- I'm afraid my wallet (on the ground next to the bottle)
will never smell the same. In fact I don't think I will ever smell the
same. I took a shower and I still don't feel clean. I'm so stressed
out by this. Can anyone relate?
But at least the weather is
gorgeous and cooling off finally. The Pacific Northwest does not handle
high 80's so well. We don't believe in air conditioning for the most part
and I managed to get dragged out on the golf course (on a Sunday what a
mistake). I did remember to put cream on my face and part of my scalp (I
put my hair back in pigtails -- it isn't long enough for one tail - and tend to
burn on the parts) but completely forgot the backs of my knees.
Ouch! Good thing I do have a big bottle of aloe vera.
So a fair warning to my
acupuncturist (I know you read this Adam), I will be coming into the office soon
in a miserable wreck form and expect you to put me all to rights again.
Cheers all and I hope you have a
fantastic weekend!!

Who
else wants to know how to fill their practice by UTILIZING their spiritual values instead of
compromising them?

Letters to the Editor
HI Amy--
I continue to
enjoy the weekly forum news. I was outraged by the article last week about
herbalists in the London Telegraph. Thanks for making me aware of it. I had to
go to their site and post a
comment/response.
I am writing to
share some news that I hope might be of interest to your readers. You may
remember I set up the company Emily Skin Soothers based on my herbal training.
It has been a wonderful adventure and we are going
strong.
Recently I
felt inspired to share some of what I have learned in the process of helping my
daughter. We constantly have customers asking us about self-care tips for
eczema. So, I put up a site of free information on self-care tips for people
with any skin problems. It is called www.myskinbetter.com and it is free
info. We are not selling anything. I hope it will be a helpful resource for
people and I thought it might be a good site for my fellow acupuncturists to
refer their skin care patients to.
Thanks again for
your newsletter.
Sincerely, Mike Arsenault

Treat The Pain Of Fibromyalgia Through Effective Alternative
Therapies - Fibromyalgia is a peculiar chronic musculoskeletal disorder with
indications of extensive and enduring muscle and soft tissue pain and swelling,
exhaustion, and soreness in the neck, shoulders and hips. The name fibromyalgia
comes from "fibro" meaning fibrous tissue (such as tendons and ligaments), "my"
meaning muscles and "algia" meaning pain. The magnitude and ineffectiveness of
conventional medicines has made the fibromyalgia patients turn to alternative
therapies, which provide drug free doctoring, to relieve the pain.
![]() School Has Degree of Recognition - Students will soon be able
to gain a Bachelor of Health Science in acupuncture - which meets
internationally recognised qualification standards - when the New Zealand School
of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine commences its four-year degree
course in February 2009 at its Wellington and Auckland campuses. The school is
the only tertiary education organisation in New Zealand authorised to deliver a
bachelor's degree in acupuncture.
Acupuncturist offers services to flood victims - Linda
Handley, an RN and licensed acupuncturist, got a first-hand feel for the
distress caused by the June floods in Cedar Rapids. Acupuncturists from
Iowa and Acupuncturists Without Borders, or AWB, ministered free of charge to
about 150 to 200 people at sites in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Their patients
ranged from flood victims to disaster relief workers and emergency responders.
"It's a mess around there," she said last week. "At this point, most people are
struggling with FEMA and not being able to get into their homes. Or they're
losing their businesses." Some individuals are also dealing with chronic
conditions in addition to the stress caused by the floodwaters, mud and
mold.
Acupuncture relieves menstrual pain, German study suggests -
Acupuncture can help relieve menstrual pain and improve the quality of life for
some women, a new study from Germany shows. Because the acupuncture patients
were compared with a control group that received no therapy, rather than a
"sham," or fake, version of the treatment, the placebo effect could have played
a role, Dr. Claudia M. Witt of Charite University Medical Center in Berlin and
her colleagues acknowledge. "Nevertheless, our study showed that acupuncture was
beneficial for women . . . ," the researchers write in the American Journal of
Obstetrics & Gynecology.
