From the Editor:

Cheers All! and hope you're finishing up a fantastic week.  I have to admit this has been the week form hell for me.  My younger cat ran away last Friday evening and I haven't seen him.  He jumped off the balcony (or fell I don't have a lot of faith in the inherent grace of cats) to a concrete floor two stories below.  Some kids found his safety collar down there.   So I'm hoping he's out there sowing some oats and will be home soon.  Stupid cat.

Summer is winding down and we had our first rain this week in almost a month.  Seattle is renowned for being dull and grey but in the summer it's bright and beautiful most days.  And we all enjoy it as much as we can because it will be gone again before we know it and the winter rains will settle in for another 9 months.  It actually seems to be getting worse.  I think the weather in general is getting worse.  The cold seems colder, hot hotter, and inclement weather more dangerous.  Does it seem that way to you too?  More hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes are being reported and they are stronger than ever.  Guess somebody really ticked off Mother Nature.

In spite of all that I do hope you all find some fun and sun this weekend.  Until next week!

Cheers,

"He who knows others is wise;
He who know himself is enlightened."
~ Lao Tzu

Greetings Dear Ones,

If you are procrastinating, you may be afraid.  In my work as a hypnotherapist I specialize in working with fears and phobias.

There are over 530 different kinds of fears...

When it comes to creating a successful private practice the realization soon occurs:

"I have all the information I need.  I know what to do, and yet I am not doing it."

For the past 6 years, since the inception of the Acupreneur, I found the one single factor that gums up the works is fear.  But fear of what?

Many simply say fear of failure, fear of success...but that is only the beginning - the real story must be told.

It is not fear of failure or success that stops us...no, it is the stories we tell ourselves over and over again about failure or success that inhibits us to take action.

So what is the remedy?

Well, many will tell you that affirmations and many new age thought processes will help you overcome this obstacle.

The cognitive therapists believe all you need to do is replace a negative thought with a positive one.

Dr. Daniel G. Amen, M.D. speaks about ANTS or A.N.T.S. (automatic negative thoughts).

ANTS come from a specific source and that is your sub or unconscious mind.  Often, dealing with these negative thoughts is like trying to swat at wasps.  One wasp down and another soon follows.  So how do you impact the source, the nest, if you will?

This is where consistent mindfulness and challenge is absolutely necessary.  By engaging in this kind of mindfulness you can absolutely change your programming over time.

This works best with those of us who are aware of our thoughts.  But many of us are not and can only tell in hindsight that something must be getting in the way.  For those it is much harder to utilize the above method.

What about a shortcut?  One of the most powerful ways of dealing with this challenge is to go directly to the nest through hypnosis.

In hypnosis we have the ability to use what psychologists call "one trial learning."  This allows a skilled hypnotist to bypass the critical area of mind and deal directly with the source of those pesky automatic negative thoughts.

Recently a phone client I was working with called about this very issue and as a result of a single session was free.  Her problem had been her fear of greater responsibility, which is a consequence of growing success.  She was afraid that she would be inadequate to the ever-increasing demands of a successful practice and that the whole thing would go up in smoke.

In our first phone meeting we were able to clarify her fear and fears and, through the use of audio immersion, she was able to proceed confidently into her work.

How can this be?  Well, the only 2 fears we are born with is the fear of falling and the fear of loud noises.  All the rest are learned and whatever can be learned can also be un-learned!

So...don't let fear stop you from succeeding...take action and rid yourself of it!

If you need more help, you can call me toll-free at 1-888-714-5742 or write me at eric@theacupreneur.com and I will be happy to explain the whole process!

To your success,
Dr. E

  News of Interest!

Austin doctors' offices combining medications - There's a new trend in Austin doctor's offices, offering both eastern and western medical practices under one roof.  From small family medical practices to Seton hospitals it's happening all over Central Texas.  "People are interested in finding new alternatives and for that matter being more conscious about their health," said Alistair Jones, the Director of Oriental Medicine at the Jefferson Street Family Practice.

Acupuncture used to improve flavour of tuna for sushi - Their prized terriers are given samba-dancing lessons, their choicest beef herds are treated to daily massages and now, in an effort to produce the most delicious sushi in the world, Japanese tuna are to be given acupuncture.  The company in Osaka that patented the technique claimed that calm tuna thrashed about less in their death throes. Once the fish have received the brief treatment the blood becomes purer and the flesh has a better flavour, Toshiro Urabe, the president of the Osakana Planning Company, said.

Latest gee-whiz amenity on cruise ships: Acupuncture - Luxury leader Crystal Cruises is making a major upgrade to its wellness offerings this month with the debut of acupuncture treatments on one of its two vessels -- an amenity that is a growing trend on ships.  The line says it has hired a licensed acupuncture physican to sail on the 1,080-passenger Crystal Serenity and offer a wide range of treatments that target weight loss, pain management, stress reduction, detoxification, smoking cessation, facial rejuvenation and even sea sickness.

Arthritis: Rosehip is better than drugs for pain-relief - Rosehip could be a more effective pain-reliever than standard drugs for people with arthritis, a new study suggests.  A powder form of the wild variety of rosehip, Rosa canina, is better at relieving pain among osteoarthritis patients than paracetamol and the nutritional supplement, glucosamine.  The three therapies were tested on a group of 300 patients, who tested each in turn for three months.  Overall, the patients reported that the rosehip preparation was almost three times more effective than paracetamol, and 40 per cent better than glucosamine.

Acupuncture is Indian: Dr Lohiya - "Acupuncture, known as Chinese way of treatment, originated in India and spread to China through Buddhist Monks," claimed Dr P B Lohiya, chairman of Indian Academy of Acupuncture Science at the inauguration ceremony of Pune Camp branch of Dr Lohiya Acupuncture Centre.

There Is No Sham In Acupuncture - The randomized controlled trial (RCT) is the gold standard for evaluating whether or not a therapeutic modality works. In RCTs testing the effect of acupuncture to improve symptoms, researchers often use "sham acupuncture" as a control procedure, on the theory that sticking needles into points that are not on acupuncture meridians should have no effect.  The problem with this approach is that there is really no such thing as sham acupuncture.  In the mechanistic, Western view of the body and medicine, acupuncture is the sum of the parts, so it works like this: problem + needle + point on meridian = problem gets better; You can insert other things in place of "needle + point on meridian" and you'll still have an accurate model for Western medicine: problem + medication = problem gets better; problem + surgery = problem gets better.
