From The Editor
From the Editor:
Happy week everyone and a very Happy
Halloween! Today has to be the most fun day of the entire year. You
can do almost anything and it's all forgiven for the spirit of Halloween.
You want to jump out of bushes, wear clown makeup, eat tons of chocolate?
All excusable Halloween behavior.
And all stuff I have been known to
do once or twice. But this year I expect I shall be tame, maybe I'll even leave
my old stand-by cat's ears in the back of the closet and sit this one out.
But I sit in an office all day with people that wouldn't be shocked or amused by
my 'Halloween is Awesome' attitude.
In fact I work with a couple of
Scrooges that eschew all holidays for their continued 'schlocky-ness' and
general sinking into a pit of capitalistic spending that has no meaning.
While I see their point I refuse to be dragged down to their level of
cynicism. Long Live Halloween!!!
I do wish you all a good night and
an excellent week ahead. And don't forget to vote on Tuesday if you
haven't done so already. That way if your guy loses you've got a
legitimate 4 years of grumbling.
Cheers,
Amy, Editor Community

else wants to know how to fill their practice by UTILIZING their spiritual values instead of

News of Interest!
Searching the frontiers of science - "Apart from bedwetting,
it seems that the only positive results from acupuncture use have to do with
some types of pain and nausea." -- Trick or Treatment, a new book by Edzard
Ernst and Simon Singh SOY RELIEF There is fresh hope for vegans, vegetarians and
other lovers of soy products. Researchers at the National University of
Singapore have come up with a way to reduce the flatulence-inducing
carbohydrates in soy yogurt by 80 to 90 per cent, while simultaneously hiking
the levels of healthy antioxidants.
![]() New Study on Acupuncture with Drugs as Equine Sedation Option
- Acupuncture is not a new technique, but clinical studies proving that this
treatment modality works in horses are relatively few and far between. In the
journal Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Brazilian
scientists studying alternatives to conventional drug administration for
achieving sedation in horses reported that combining low-dose drug
administration with acupuncture is a viable option. These findings confirm
anecdotal reports from veterinary acupuncturists on this
subject.
Cigna Rolls Out Posh Health Plans for Individuals and Small
Businesses - As more people fall out of the employer-sponsored health
insurance market, more insurers are following them. Cigna is the latest to jump
into the market for individual policies and is wooing customers with perks
usually reserved for large company health plans. The bells and whistles include
discounts for fitness club memberships, coverage of acupuncture and 24-hour
health information lines. Prices can vary, depending on a person's medical
history and state rules.
Acupuncture sessions Nov. 3 to benefit Prevention First - Have
you ever wondered about its benefits but have never had an acupuncture
treatment? On Monday, November 3, Robert Balko, L. Ac., Dipl. Ac., director of
The Atlantic Center for Acupuncture in Ocean, is offering introductory
acupuncture sessions for new clients in observance of National Acupuncture Day.
A nominal $10 fee will be donated to Prevention First, a local non-profit
organization dedicated to strengthening the foundations of children and
families.

Adequate pain care sorely lacking for patients - Medical
science has learned a great deal about the causes of pain and ways to relieve
it, pain experts say, but for a host of reasons, the treatment of pain and
suffering has improved hardly at all in recent years. John Seffrin , the
president of the American Cancer Society , calls this "a national health-care
crisis of under-treated pain." "Nearly all cancer pain can be relieved, but
fewer than half of our patients report adequate pain relief," Rebecca Kirch, the
society's associate director of policy, told a pain seminar in Washington last
week. Hospitals do a little better than that in managing pain for patients with
all kinds of illnesses, according to a survey to be published Thursday in the
New England Journal of
Medicine.
